Packaging

We're taking care of waste by helping you to recycle our Philadelphia Blocks and Spreads packaging or even reuse our Spreads tubs. Our packaging is designed to ensure the great taste of Philadelphia is protected, providing you convenience with ease of usage and ensure you get to use every last bit of cream cheese left. While most of our Philadelphia packaging is recyclable, we know there is still more that can be done to reduce our impact.

OUR CURRENT PACKAGING
Our Philadelphia Spreads tubs can be recycled in your home recycling bin, as can our Philadelphia Blocks cardboard packaging and Philadelphia Portions foil. We have more work to do on our blocks and portions. We’re currently working hard to find alternative solutions to ensure recyclability of the aluminum foils that our Philadelphia Blocks get wrapped in and recyclable material for the plastic containers of our Philadelphia Portions.

OUR FUTURE AMBITION
Our goal for Philadelphia is to have 100% recyclability across our portfolio in Australia by 2025. So, when you finish your delicious Philadelphia products you can either recycle them or even use our tubs as herb planters!

Ideas to get you started on reusing our tubs

Grow your very own herbs

Farming

We believe the first step in bringing you deliciously creamy Philadelphia that you love is sourcing high quality milk and cream. Dairying in Australia is the 4rd largest rural industry and a key contributor to the Australian agricultural economy. We are proud to say Philadelphia has been made with high-quality Australian milk since 1956. We source over 30 million liters of milk annually from Australian farmers providing indirect employment to hundreds of South Australian and Victorian farmers. When it comes to cream, we source 8 million liters of cream annually and strive to source within Australia as much as we can. With limited supply of cream in Australia, we also source cream from a network of trusted suppliers in New Zealand when needed.

Manufacturing

Did you know nearly 80 million tubs and blocks of Philadelphia are produced in Australia annually for Australians as well as cream cheese lovers across the world? While Philadelphia has been made in Australia since 1956, we moved into our current home in Mount Gambier, South Australia in 1981. As a true South Australian operation, our Mount Gambier plant provides employment for over 110 employees as one of the biggest employers in Mount Gambier. Equipped with latest technology and machinery, while we make you the best quality Philadelphia cream cheese, we also focus on making our products more sustainably. Over the last five years we have reduced our energy usage by 48% through efficient lighting and heat recovery systems*. We have also installed solar that now covers about 6% of our total energy needs. We have been able to reduce our water usage by 23%* and we are proud to say we have diverted 83%* of food waste from landfill . While we are happy about the progress we have made, we are committed to continuously strive to reduce our impact on the production line. *2018 baseline
